White Mischief knows how to throw a party!

 -March 27th 2010. Scala, King’s Cross London. -
A night where neo-Victorian, carnivalesque steampunks’ wildest dreams came true, exuding a vaudeville unadultered infectiousness.   I took a trip to London to try and define this new trend.   I’ve come away in complete awww, the people, the costumes, and the fun to be had… it was all sexy, sultry and a bit surreal.

The evening started with a welcome serenade by Oompah brass band as you climbed the staircase, to then enter an intimately decked room with steampunk paraphernalia such as pieces from Oxford’s steampunk exhibition, to jewellery and homemade chocolate souvenirs.   The soft background of jazz set the perfect mood for guests to arrive, get a drink, mingle and of course ‘ooh and ahhh’ over each others intricately planned out attire.

Hats, moustaches, military attire, ring leaders, corsets, goggles, brass, monocles, tweeds and a whole lot of dandyism, were flaunting about the room.   The guests looked amazing, in their impeccable ‘dressed to the hilt’ attire.   Having gone all out, to the point where one would be embarrassed to show up in jeans and a t-shirt.

The whole evening seemed more like an interactive theatrical experience rather than a regular night out.   Just when you thought you had seen it all you would stumble across, a live photobooth, a magic show, a flea-circus, or another obscure act from the continuous live entertainment.   The variety of shows was mind-blowing ranging from Mr. B, the Gentleman Rhymer’s  ‘Chap-Hop’, to a chainsaw juggling pirate.  All to end with a good foot-stomping resembling to an early 1900’s dance hall, with swing and jive.

The best part about the whole evening was the great atmosphere, everyone was relaxed and super friendly. I didn’t see too much alcohol or substance abuse taking place, it was four A.M. and people were still able to carry conversations as opposed to the normal stagger and grunts I see around at University.

This bizarrely fetish and obscure evening perfectly clashed with genteel sophistication.  White Mischief has assaulted my senses and left me craving the next event!

I love how beards and moustaches have become so in style that girls go crazy year round waiting for Novembeard, and just hope for moments when they can get close enough to cop a feel or just outright appreciate some ‘good scruff’ or a ‘well groomed’  look.

So… when is facial hair going to become SOOOoo last season!

I love my clothes!!

Pendleton coat, leather satchel, Adidas shoes, vintage Expos tuque.  These are what I’ve been living in lately. (Minus the raccoon hat, it’s a bit O.T.T.)

I’ve been waiting for this Pendleton coat to go on sale in the Mens section at Simons, it finally dropped from 450$ to 69$ I almost died in the process, and had to settle for a larger size but I GOT IT!!  I pimped it up with my great grandmothers mink collar.

Everyone has ‘real fur bobbles’ on their tuques, ‘real fur’ is in, I made mine out of some recycled mink.   There are real fur trims on everything these days, I even saw some on some Spring coats today.

I saw a 17 yr old hipster at the mall left the tag on his Vans shoes, thought I would give it a try with my Adidas.   It’s making me realise that I’m not so young anymore, and not a hipster, I may just have to get rid of it.

Leaving Toys R Us yesterday, I saw this mixed in amongst the gumball and candy, Coin Machines.   Wow!  Mustaches really are just that cool. 
MUSTACHE MIX, NEW STYLES AVAILABLE!!   Way to represent!  I was impressed.

Waffle cloth plaid shirts

This is not just a plaid shirt, and it’s not a flannel plaid shirt either… IT IS A WORN ‘HAND ME DOWN’ PLAID WAFFLE CLOTH COTTON JERSEY KNIT - PLAID SHIRT.

Props to one of my cousins for inheriting this. Jealous!  I couldn’t leave out the vintage 80’s iridescent purple rain pants.

Montreal Fashion And Design Festival August 3rd - 6th brought out the Fashion Victim in everyone!   These people truly rocked their looks, or suffered their art… however you wish to see it!   I had a fun 4 days of outfit appreciation!

Classic Boat Festival - Vieux-Port de Montreal

When I heard Classic Boat Festival in partnership with Sperry Top-Sider, I instantly thought boat shoes, tweed, mustaches, Henndrix Gin and vintage attitudes of gentlemanly-cool!

The boats were amazing with their the streamlined lacquered wood!

I feel like I would like to meet the owner of this boat, they’ve got their story straight: Vintage American flag,Yellow Mac, Captain hat on the dash, and the stylish backpack on the floor.

An ownerless pair of deck-shoes lying about.

I love the vintage floral.

Moi: Vintage vest with Cameo brooch over flouncy cream lace. I rolled up the cuffs to my Gentlewoman Ben Sherman trousers and matched them with my worn deckshoes.
